Container Freight Station (CFS)
Definition
A CBP-bonded cargo facility where containerized freight, especially less-than-container-load cargo, may be received, consolidated, deconsolidated, temporarily stored and prepared for onward transportation. A CFS is a distinct customs authorization from a bonded warehouse, primarily supporting cargo handling, while a Central Examination Station (CES) makes merchandise available to CBP for physical examination.
Example
For example, an LCL shipment is broken down and staged for local delivery at the bonded Container Freight Station rather than examined at the CES. Island Movers operates both a CES and a bonded CFS in the same Oʻahu facility.
